How To Turn Notifications On/Off On Your Smartphone

Your smartphone is a powerful tool in both your private and professional worlds. Don’t let a constant stream of unnecessary notifications make you resent it. Check out this week’s Tech Tip to learn how to customize which apps can send you notifications.

Want to be able to focus on a task without having to leave your smartphone in another room or turn it off altogether? Or maybe you just need to stop one or two apps in particular from sending you updates multiple times a day.

Check out our latest Tuesday Tech Tip video to learn how to turn notifications on and off on your smartphone:

By default, many apps will send several push notifications regularly. They want your attention to boost the metrics they have on their users. They want to notify you of deals and sales. They want your attention.

Doing so may make them more popular apps, but it doesn’t help your focus. A key part of using a smartphone effectively means learning how to customize your experience. You probably don’t need UberEats telling you about that day’s discount code while you’re trying to focus on work, right?

Steps For Turning Notifications On/Off

  1. Open Settings
  2. Select “Notifications”
  3. Select each app for which you want to customize your notification preferences
  4. In this area, you can specify how you want the app to notify you, whether it’s with sound, as a banner at the top of your screen, or you can even simply turn notifications off altogether.

It’s that simple – as with most things IT-related, it’s just a matter of knowing where to look. Optimizing your user experience just comes down to having a little extra knowledge.
