Using Microsoft Dictation For Voice-To-Text
Why type something out, when you can have your computer do it for you?
That’s what Microsoft’s Dictation feature offers – the ability to speak out your text and have your computer type it out for you. Whether you’re a slow typer, or you think better on your feet, pacing around your desk, the Dictation feature frees you from your office chair and lets you talk through your next document.

How To Use Microsoft Dictation
This feature is available in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and OneNote. To use Dictation, simply follow these steps:
- Select Dictate in the top right-hand corner of the app window
- Once you see the red recording indicator, you’re ready to begin – simply start talking and watch as Microsoft types it out for you
- You will need to add punctuation into the dictated text by verbalizing (say “period,” “open parentheses,” etc.)
Microsoft Dictation even allows you to customize the language you’re dictating in. Next time you need to take notes as you brainstorm, or talk through an important email before you send it, try out Microsoft Dictation.
